Variety Origin: ‘Son Flash’ is an Itoh hybrid peony variety. It was bred by Roger Anderson, first flowered in 2012, began propagation in 2013, and was officially introduced by Swenson Gardens in the USA in 2017.
Core Characteristics: Petals are cup-shaped with rounded contours and slight notches on the edges. Small red blushes dot the petal bases. Although it has light yellow filaments, the stamens lack pollen and do not produce seeds. The flower features 4 hairy green carpels with pink stigmas, presenting a neat and attractive form.
Cultivation Performance: As an Itoh peony, it is more cold-hardy than tree peonies and exhibits good heat and humidity tolerance, adapting to most temperate regions. Suited for planting in full sun environments; ample sunlight intensifies flower color. Prefers loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot. Neutral or slightly acidic soil is preferred.
