Description

Variety Origin: Duluth is a late-flowering, double white herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora ‘Duluth’) bred by American breeder Franklin in 1931. Named after the port city of Duluth, Minnesota, USA. It is a classic white peony variety with nearly a century of history in Europe and America.

Core Characteristics: Petals are thick and glossy, with delicate ruffles on the edges. Plant habit is compact and upright, with resilient stems. Foliage is dark green, glossy, narrow, and pointed. Both individual flowers and the overall plant have a relatively long bloom period.

Cultivation Performance: Extremely cold hardy, tolerating -30°C, adaptable to USDA zones 3-8 and northern regions of China. Prefers full sun and fertile, loose, well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil. Outstanding disease resistance, with strong tolerance to common issues like leaf spot. Best planted in autumn (September-October). Once established, it can thrive for years without frequent transplanting. Stems are sturdy and resist bending. Vase life is 7-10 days, suitable for cut flowers and garden planting.

As a classic late-flowering white variety, Duluth peony combines pure flower form with excellent practical and ornamental value, making it a high-quality choice for garden display in northern regions and for high-end cut flowers.
