Variety Origin: It is an Itoh hybrid peony (Intersectional Hybrid) bred by American breeder Roger Anderson, officially introduced and registered in 1999.
Core Characteristics: Stems bear a terminal flower with 3 lateral buds, resulting in a long bloom period. Petals are raspberry pink with deep wine-red basal flares. Yellow stamens add to the warm, vibrant color. Foliage is dark green with good texture, strongly upright, offering high ornamental value throughout the growth cycle. Stamens are normal and fertile; some sources indicate it can produce a small number of seeds.
Cultivation Performance: Strong cold hardiness. Prefers full sun to partial shade. Suited for well-drained, loose, fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Inherits the advantages of Itoh hybrids with strong disease resistance and tolerance to heat and humidity.
Watermelon Wine is a classic red Itoh peony with vibrant color, a long bloom period, and a light fragrance.
