Variety Origin: An Itoh hybrid peony (Intersectional Peony) jointly developed by American breeder Roger Anderson and Swenson Gardens. First flowered in 2015, officially registered and introduced in 2019.
Core Characteristics: New spring foliage emerges deep wine-red, maturing to glossy dark green, providing high ornamental value throughout the season. The base color of the petals is light purple-pink, with deep purple-brown flares extending from the base. Petal edges are slightly wavy, offering strong layering.
Cultivation Performance: Prefers full sun. Insufficient light can easily lead to leggy growth, reduced flowering, and dull color. Suited for loose, fertile, well-drained slightly alkaline soil. Strictly avoid waterlogging; ensure timely drainage during rainy seasons to prevent root rot. Cold hardy; for outdoor overwintering in northern regions, cover the roots with 5-10 cm of soil for protection. In hot southern regions, provide appropriate shading and cooling.
Plum Flash is a high-quality dark-colored double Itoh peony, highly recognizable among deep-hued peony varieties.
