Variety Origin: ‘Sonoma Apricot’ is an Itoh hybrid peony variety. It was bred by American breeder Tolomeo and officially registered in the United States in 1999.
Core Characteristics: The flower color is a pure apricot yellow when first opening, gradually fading to light yellow as it matures. Small red blushes are present at the petal bases. The center is filled with yellow stamens, and the light green carpels are surrounded by incomplete red markings.
Cultivation Performance: Strong cold hardiness, adapting to most temperate regions. Suited for planting in full sun or partial shade environments. Whether planted in sheltered or open locations, it grows normally with minimal protection needed under extreme weather. Not demanding regarding soil type, as long as it is fertile, moist, and well-drained. Maintenance is relatively simple, with strong adaptability. Suitable for in-ground garden planting, massing in flower beds, container cultivation, and also serves as a quality cut flower variety.
‘Sonoma Apricot’ is a distinctive apricot-yellow Itoh peony variety, combining the elegant flower form of herbaceous peonies with the vigorous growth of tree peonies.
