Description

Variety Origin: Kansas is a classic red-flowered peony variety bred by American breeder Louis Smirnow in 1940, belonging to the Paeonia lactiflora group. It has received the American Peony Society (APS) high-quality variety certification and is one of the most widely spread classic varieties among red-flowered peonies.

Core Characteristics: Petals number 32-38 layers, arranged compactly and neatly, with a thick, glossy texture, excellent three-dimensionality and fullness. Flower buds are large and full, with a thick epidermis, resistant to transport and cutting, with stable blooming after vasing.

Cultivation Performance: A typical sun-loving variety, requiring 6+ hours of direct sunlight daily, tolerates light partial shade. Extremely cold hardy. Prefers loose, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0-7.5). Avoid heavy, compacted soil.

Kansas peony takes “classic deep red double flowers, strong adaptability, and long life” as its core advantages, becoming a benchmark variety among mid-season red-flowered peonies.
