Variety Origin: An Itoh hybrid peony (Intersectional Peony) jointly developed by American breeder Roger Anderson and Swenson Gardens. First flowered in 2013 and began large-scale propagation in 2016. The core breeding goal was to develop a mid-season flowering ornamental variety featuring light pink flowers with rose-pink flares.
Core Characteristics: Petals are light pink with rose-pink flares extending approximately 20% of the petal length from the base. They are cup-shaped, rounded, with crenate edges. Stems bear 1-2 flowers. Stamens lack pollen; filaments are cream-colored. Pistils are green and hairy with pink stigmas.
Cultivation Performance: Prefers full sun to partial shade; ample sunlight ensures vivid color and an upright plant habit. Suited for loose, fertile, well-drained neutral soil. Cold hardy, can overwinter safely outdoors in temperate regions; most northern areas require no additional winter protection. Division is best done in autumn.
Pink Flash is a classic Itoh peony featuring delicate light pink flowers with prominent flares, offering outstanding recognition and adaptability among light-colored Itoh peonies.
