Variety Origin: Sonoma Halo is an Itoh hybrid peony (Intersectional Peony) bred and registered by California-based breeder Irene Tolomeo in 2006.
Core Characteristics: Petals feature a bright yellow center, grading into a creamy white “halo” towards the edges, with light pink blushes at the base. Petals are slightly ruffled. Lacks stamens. Pistils are light green with pink stigmas. Stems bear a single flower held well above the foliage, creating a strong visual impact.
Cultivation Performance: Prefers full sun. The yellow-white gradient is more distinct with ample sunlight. Partial shade can lead to faded color, reduced flowering, and a loose habit. Suited for loose, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic to neutral soil. Strictly avoid waterlogging; ensure drainage during rainy seasons to prevent root rot. Cold hardy; for outdoor overwintering in northern regions, covering roots with 5-8 cm of soil is sufficient. In hot, humid southern regions, enhance ventilation and provide appropriate summer shading. Possesses comprehensive strong resistance.
